With all the talk about investing in new gTLD’s at Elliot’s and elsewhere I thought I’d write a little something about my .tv investing experience and thoughts, .tv and .me are probably the closest I will come to investing in non .com, for now anyway. Personally I like the .tv extension, this is partially why I started investing in them a few years back, but the main reason is because I believed and still believe that as Google, Apple, and others start figuring out how to better deliver TV over the internet the extension will get more accepted, this combined with my thinking that the promotion of new gTLD’s might spill over to .tv. This was my theory anyway, but as we all know investing in domains can be risky, especially non .com.
What I do believe to be true for sure is that as Google and Apple and others start integrating TV and Internet as is now happening the final product will be one of the biggest transformations in multimedia and advertising we might see in our lifetimes. It was a big leap when TV went from three networks to 100’s of cable channels, that was nothing compared to what is on the horizon now. Besides content and delivery, targeted and interactive advertising will be something to watch (pun intended), this will be where the real innovation will come into play, it will be exciting to watch.
Anyway, back to .tv, so far I have been wrong on a few fronts, the first was I assumed Google and Apple and others would be further along in the integration of TV and the internet, but it is obviously complicated and is taking longer than I expected. The second is my assumption that this would translate into end users embracing and using the .tv extension for video sites and TV channels, as of now most have not, most sites I see that are video or TV related still use a .com like ****TV.com or *****.com/TV, no real surprise here, but I am a gambler. A revolution is happening that is merging TV and the Internet but in my experience so far it has not translated into a boost for the .tv extension.
I will also add that I think more before I get a .tv domain, it is very extension specific, like .xxx, you wouldn’t necessarily get anykeyword.xxx and think it’s a good domain, it should pertain to XXX right? Almost like a hack, same with .tv, for instance I have Airfares.tv, normally you see the word Airfares and think great word, but if you saw Airfares.xxx you would probably think “Mile High Club” before great deals on plane tickets, same with .tv, it is limited, Airfares.tv is kind of worthless, so other than this and some other real flops I have registered, I try and stick with (and I get most of the inquiries on) short multimedia related and visually appealing words.
So far I have made a return on my .tv investments, and I do expect that will continue, but a better return will take longer than I initially envisioned (if at all) and because of this I have made some adjustments and sold some for less than I probably should have, I like when an extension pays for itself and .tv domains make no real parking income so selling them is how they pay for themselves. But I still have a vision and am holding on to the belief that someday my .tv domains will have more value and acceptance than they do today. Time will tell…
Ironically my crappy internet went out for a few hours today but the TV still worked, so I watched cooking shows, that is why this post is later than usual, I am looking forward to the day when I have the option to merge these two things, I don’t have a fast enough internet option at the moment, and I can’t watch TV on my iPhone, I am too old for that.

Thanks for stopping by, I would feel so alone without readers…
If it doesn’t end in .com, it isn’t worth buying.
If it doesn’t end in .com, it isn’t worth SELLING.
When I looked at the DNjournal listing, my eyes only see the DOT com.
Do you see what I see when you see those sales listing?..only dot com right?
And some dot com’s are not worth selling either… like mine listed on ebay right now 11J(dot) Com
The latest TV show to be named shows two trends- one preference for “the” before the keyword and TV before the dot. That’s just Hollywood thinking. And when the shift happens you refer to (and I’ve experienced what Apple has in store) it will be named something totally different because that’s the point. Remember the spot “It’s not TV it’s HBO” (of course it was known as “Cable’) coming on air in august:
http://www.thelistshow.tv
Quinn Street owns TheList.com
All said, there has been a lot of success under .TV and corporations using .TV to redirect to their YouTube channel under their branding. Problem is the shaky agreement with the government and the rising sea that will soon wipe the country off the face of the earth. Meanwhile sell, sell sell!
Hate to tell you this, TV ratings are down because nobody is watching tv anymore.
It is all propaganda on TV and they are being hijacked by politics.
For movies, their domains are always BlahBlahMovie.com, ending with movie.
Anyway, good analysis on your TV/ME domain and for that you get
http://www.GoodKarmaToYou.com—plus website plus t-shirt-make offer
As usual the incumbents will hold onto their power for as long as they can which is why we had dial up for 15 years after broadband could have been available
