I am the last domain blog to post the sad news reported yesterday, “Dot Com is Dead”, RIP Dot Com, you have always been my favorite TLD and you will be missed, I am mourning today, I guess this means I will have to move my blog back to Dots.us, can I do that or do I have to use a new gTLD? I really feel bad for Elliot, he just went through all that trouble to move his blog to a dead domain, sad.
It is said that five distinct stages of grief must be experienced to cope with the death of a loved one, I thought I would post these so those of us that loved Dot Com know what feelings to expect in the days and weeks to come:
Denial: Denial, numbness and disbelief are normal first reactions to the loss of a loved one. This reaction serves as an immediate way to protect you from the intensity of the loss.
Anger: Anger is a typical reaction when you feel powerless and helpless, the loss from a death may give a feeling of abandonment as well as a feeling of resentment for being “left behind.”
Bargaining: According to the University of Iowa, bargaining manifests itself when you feel as if there may have been something you personally could or should have done to prevent the death.
Depression: Depression may manifest itself as loss of appetite, inability to sleep, depletion of energy and lack of concentration. Other symptoms may be feelings of loneliness, emptiness, self-pity and isolation.
Acceptance: Once you reach the acceptance stage, you are able to come to terms with the death of your loved one and continue with your life. At this point you can get back out there and start registering some new gTLD’s.
Unfortunately I have a long way to go, I am still in the denial stage…

LOL, I know one thing, I am a long way from acceptance still…
You still buying .ME
Yea I like .me, email me…
Haha, good one Mark!, very funny indeed
By the way, as we said some time ago, great keywords .net sell for big bucks.
Adam just sold Download.net for 6 figures: http://theartofthename.com/adam-dicker-completes-six-figure-sale-of-download-net/
I saw that, he bought it on Ebay in 2001 for $3k, how sweet it is…
Mark,
Really very good post. I’ve been aware of those 5 stages but reading here in relation to domain names made it cool and funny.
fragerfactor has new blogpost about Frank Schilling that is really retarded.
Claiming that if Frank thought in 2007 about .COM as unbeatable king (which it’s still today KING), that it means “he should feel bad about his statement” if he’s involved in new gTLD.
If I think Toyota is reliable and Alfa Romeo is not that reliable, doesn’t mean I one day I won’t also buy Alfa Romeo.
It’s as retarded fragerfactor claim as “I’ve eat bread and butter in 2007, that means I don’t ever eat bread with anything else”.
I believe fragerfactor and some other moron blogs should be dropped from domaining.com due to miserable quality and their stupid conclusions claimed as “facts”
I like Owen…
