I took a few days off and spent some time with my Valentine, but it’s Sunday today so back to work. These new Gs are making me feel like a recovering drug addict with a big pile of my drug of choice, or maybe my second drug of choice, just sitting on the table in front of me and I am trying to pretend it’s not there, it’s tough.
I have been trying to not get new names but I get tempted when I see some things and it is driving me crazy, I did grab another single letter today and I took a chance on my first word, I know I said I probably wasn’t going to do this but I am addicted to domaining so it is hard not to, I also predicted I probably would lol. I have usually done better “after the goldrush” than during the goldrush so I am sure there will be plenty of opportunities to make money and lose money all along the way, sometimes it’s better to just watch things for a while, get a better idea of how things are going, and then do some calculated, strategic investing, many have made a fortune with domains doing this.
But still I did spend money on 2 today, there are too many choices and it just has me confused so other than those 2 I haven’t done much more than watch a bunch of names getting registered by other domainers. Single letters don’t take much thinking and I got an offer already on the first one I reg’d, v.ventures, I didn’t sell it but it made me think maybe I should grab another, or 3…

I hear you about temptation…and addiction.
I did snag two one-letter .estate, but I don’t know how rare these will be…
*
I don’t either, I think a single letter .estate will sell, but the rarity thing is definitely an issue now, I honestly have no idea how things will pan out.
The one thing I do know is the registrars are making some money…
Up until now I had also resisted the temptation… but I just caved in and bought two single letter .directory domains.
Early indications suggest that these single letters are pretty liquid (flippable).
I agree that the rarity factor is something to watch, if there are going to be single letters available in loads of these nTLDs – that’s gotta bring down the price.
Yea me too, I got X.Directory. I am debating whether to turn them now like Aaron did, I am pretty sure I can, and just blow that money at Vegas TRAFFIC in May, or hold out and see how things go…
Nice one. the ‘x’ lends itself to lots of uses, though adult/xxx directory seems the obvious use to me.
I’ve been periodically checking to see which ones are still available in .directory, each time I check another one is gone π
Two is enough for me, I don’t want to go crazy on these. If there are any single letters available when it switches to regular registration fee (unlikely), I’ll grab some then.
The two that I bought are applicable to my business, so if these end up not being worth much on the aftermarket, at least they still have value for me.
I agree, single letters are cool…
Regarding the New G’s, I have a medical term for what you describe. I have been through this stage and was diagnosed with severe “Chronic New G Narcosis”….The symptoms subsided as I realized that the New G’s are part of the Internet landscape going forward. My denial kept me from seeing what is best for me. Only after I no longer “denied” what was happening was I able to help myself and move forward……
For some of Donuts more recent nTLDs they’ve reserved all or most single letters.
.kitchen – all reserved
.land – all reserved… but one (z.land and someone grabbed it, not me)
.construction – all reserved… but one (z.construction still available π )
Perhaps on the last two they accidentally left the ‘z’ off their list?! π
I wonder if this will be the trend going forward (the registry reserving all single letters)?
Luke,
I was noticing the same…..Most of the .technology single letters were pulled….Z.Technology was still available earlier…………
New Gtlds? no, thank you, not now at least, we’ll see later.
I’ve just purchased some more old school stuff … what? …
OldSchoolStuff.com, of course π
I guess Mark knows a lot about Old School stuff, particularly in music π
Here’s 3 full days of mew TLDs trend on twitter, most of it mine:

We currently cannot offer new TLDs. Why? Read here http://blacknig.ht/cf1 #newTLDs #privacy #law
You guys keep forgetting 1400 of these extensions are coming out, you are coming from a world of 27 rational extensions to 1400.
Supply, and demand, in this case there is endless. Mark, to bad you couldn’t bank some of that $15k TV sale. These gtlds will eat your bank roll in a month, with no promises.
There is never easy money to be had, when everyone knows what you know.
Good Luck
Thanks for reminding me that there will be 1400 more TLD’s Kevin, it’s hard to even fathom, anyway I only spent about $1k on these things so far so and I think I will be OK, I am pretty frugal, a friend actually gave me $450 to reg Cannabis.today, Marijuana.today, and Hemp.today and I actually got an inquiry on Cannabis.today today, we are splitting the proceeds so it didn’t cost me a dime. And I got a few single letters because I think I can sell them, v.ventures, x.directory, t.graphics, etc.
The only name that cost me any real money was Energy.Today and I think I will develop that name, I really like it…
You’re right Kevin, there will be loads of these.
Time will tell if they release more single letters initially or if they reserve them which seems could be the case going forward. Either way, yes there will be lots of competition.
I’m making a small number of strategic purchases. If it doesn’t pan out, I haven’t lost much. It’s money I can afford to lose, because it’s not going to be detrimental to my overall finances. I strongly advise any speculators to not spend more than they can afford to lose.
I’ve been down this road before with .co and I didn’t do that great, so yes I appreciate that statistically most people are more likely to make a loss rather than a profit.
