I felt guilty today when I read Konstantinos’ comments on his blog post at OnlineDomain.com about fake trademark scammers, I felt guilty because he said most domain blogs:
“are just afraid to take a stand just because they might lose a couple of sponsors”
I think it’s about time I got a couple of sponsors to lose, at the moment I don’t have any so I have no excuse for not writing about this more, I haven’t blogged about it much because I thought Konstantinos was doing a great job explaining the situation, better than I could, and I always laugh when I see 6 blog posts in a row at Domaining.com that report the exact same thing.
But it seems like a real scam and deserves more attention than it has received imo, it seems obvious to me that they just put in these TM’s so they could grab all the words in the new gTLD sunrises, I agree with Berkens that it is not necessarily the registries job to be the TM police but it seems like they are getting scammed and should do more.
The issue here is “What Box Holdings”, “Plan Bee LLC” and “Thomas A. Brackey II”, they all use the same address in Beverly Hills, registered trademarks on 100’s of generic words, pretty much every TM is for the same products and services that have noting to do with the TM words, they have TM’d words like shopping, dating, vacation, finance, holiday, wedding, online, discount, bet, realestate, events, health, money, travel, credit, party, movie, games, career, etc. I also see others that seem to be doing this also with words like Forex and letters like X, yes the letter X is TM’d.
Konstantinos at OnlineDomain.com has written some good articles that explain the situation, it is recommended reading:

Domain of the day: X.Directory – Make me an Offer!
Thanks for looking…
Thanks Mark.
We have about the same number of sponsors!
You know I was not talking about you.
And those guys wasted a lot of money to get TMs just to purchase a mix of junk new tlds … what a deal! congrats! lol …
And probably they may lose the TMs if not put in use (but to be sure I need to check Swiss rules about this).
The new gtlds, another rigged joke … well, nothing new under the sun …
Anyway, kudos to Kosta for uncovering the case.
Talking about law and regulations, here’s my Domain of the Day: OnlineCriminalLawyer.com (Online Criminal Lawyer), make me your best offer!
Ok, as OnlineDomain explained they counter the fake TM’s by assigning high premium pricing, and renewals to the keywords they are after, so hence they are both winning hand in hand, cause, and effect, this will only spell doom for the registries. I bought a few gtld’s early on, now I have straight out boycotted them, and it feels damn good.
“We have about the same number of sponsors!”
Answer: zippo, nada, zero, NONE
Yea, so afraid to hurt the sponsors’ feeling so you can get the extra$$$ for your weekend beer.
SCARYOKEE.COM- you can have it for just $25
Aaron and I have sponsors but Zero in the new gTLDs. Dot club won’t let us in the club. It’s doesn’t help that I write that we own no gTLDs at all and aren’t advising anyone to start. Plenty of money in the old names and until that stops why lose focus? I’m not one of those guys that is afraid to miss the next big thing. I just want things. I don’t care where they come from. New or Old. And as I’ve said many times before. Special K is the best blog out there when it comes to the new names and telling it like it is
Thanks Shane.
Dot club sponsored me for a month and then left.
