Why do so many people write about domain squatting but you never read negative articles about real estate investors that buy up all the ocean front property and sit on it or people like me that buy up all of an artists rock posters and sit on them until the price goes up?
You could call me a Rock Poster Squatter but I have never read a negative article or blog post about it, why is that? I’m serious, I used to pick out rock poster artists that I thought had bright futures and I would go to Ebay and poster retailers and buy up all of their posters, all of them, I would have a dozen of the same posters even though only 20 were printed, did I put them all on my wall? No.
I would hoard them and wait for the price to go up and then sell them at a nice profit. I am sure others really wished they had the posters on their wall to enjoy but instead they were all sitting in my flat files until I decided the price was right to sell them.
I never read any negative poster squatter posts but I am pretty sure I got targeted once because somebody was pissed off I kept outbidding them on the posters I was buying up and hoarding, like I would outbid everybody everytime and buy up 10 of the same poster whenever they would come up for sale, here is what happened, this is from a post I wrote back in July 2013:
“I got a call from a bookstore asking if “Hugh Mann” was available, I laughed and replied “nope, just us animals” and blew it off, I assumed it was a wrong number or a prank call. A few days later I received a book in my PO Box addressed to “Hugh Mann” and titled “How To Hack Paypal”, what was so disturbing is the book was purchased with my Paypal account but not by me, somebody hacked my Paypal account and ordered it for me, the irony. I immediately changed all my Paypal info and replaced my CC’s and that was all that ever happened. Somebody was sending me a message no doubt, at the time I was outbidding and buying up every Emek poster on Ebay so I think I irritated somebody…”

Augmentedvegas.com
new technology with google backing
I took “ninjas”. Thank you, Mark!
Totally agree with what you saying here Mark. Domains are assets people do not understand.
However… anytime I read these sorts of comments about the industry people miss the fact cybersquatting is a HUGE problem. On DomainSherpa I just heard about the sale of “LegionofBoom(.)com” which is a TM violation. The domain company should not have allowed the sale, but who cares? It was sold for $3,000. People shouldn’t do this but will.
Hope you are recovering well.
