Domain Picks Dropping on New Years Day 2015

It’s the last day of the year, you might have noticed I took the last month off, or maybe not. I had to take care of some other biz and it has been taking all of my time, but I did want to get in an end of the year picks post.

2014 was the first year of new gTLD’s, I am still not sure what to think about them but I did spend a few grand on some and I haven’t sold any yet, I received a few $500 offers but I didn’t want to sell for that so I haven’t sold any, in the meantime the upcoming renewals are making me nervous, maybe I should start taking the $500 offers?

Konstantinos at OnlineDomain.com asked a few months back if people were going to renew their new G’s, I didn’t respond because I honestly was not sure what I was going to do, yesterday 101domain.com auto-renewed about a dozen of my .tips, domains like Solar.tips, Medicine.tips, Recycle.tips, Timeshare.tips, Currency.tips, etc, I thought I had turned off auto-renew on them but apparently I didn’t so I still have a bunch of .tips, so please keep those offers coming in lol.

I know it seems a little crazy to expect to sell a domain at a good ROI in a year but I was hoping to, I have before, but it didn’t happen with my new G’s this year. It actually kind of reminds me of some .tv’s I got back in 2000 because I thought .tv would be the greatest thing since slicedbread.com but I was wrong and eventually I dropped them all except the ONE I sold, ArtGallery.tv. Is it Deja Vu? Hard to know…

It wasn’t my best year for sales but it wasn’t too bad, I only sold 5 domains for 5 figures and I sold more domains for 3 figures than I have ever sold before, mostly .me domains, I have been blowing them out for $500-$1000, I have too many .me domains maybe, they are paying for themselves but they are not making me rich and that is an issue, I want to get rich lol, renewals can be a bitch, renewing $14k in .me domains and selling $30k is not the best get rich plan, it’s profit but it’s not get rich…

I had 2 sales that were NDA so I can’t talk much about them but I can say one was a pre-release name I got in January 2014 for less than $100 and I sold it for $10k in March 2014, that was sweet, another I promised I would never mention it at all, did I just mention it? No I didn’t. My biggest public posted sale was Society.tv at $15k, I paid about $900 for it in 2011. Overall I made more than I spent but I still struggled…

In other year end news I think Google hacked Sony. Seriously. I think Sony just got played by Google lol, this is just a theory, I am not making accusations, and I am not a Google fan, but I did want to get it on the record that I think Google might have just pulled off one of the most creative hacks ever know to man.

Why would Google hack and expose Sony? Because of Sony’s continuing SOPA BS called “Project Goliath” (look it up if you don’t know what it is). Basically Sony, along with Universal, Fox, Paramount, Disney, and Warner Bros, is leading a secret, coordinated campaign to revive the failed SOPA legislation through other means, so even if one pirated video or song shows up at YouTube.com the whole site could get shut down, something like that, and Google isn’t having any of that BS, it’s the war of the airwaves, sure Google will take down a pirated video if you ask them to but they are not getting shut down completely (via DNS) for one pirated video and this is what Sony and the MPAA is trying to pull off. Hollywood must hate the fact that Google and Apple and Amazon and Netflix and some other newbies are probably going to own the airwaves in a few years.

That is why I think Google hacked Sony, and the irony is Sony had to pull “The Interview” from major theaters (their main movie revenue stream) because of some BS North Korea hack threat and instead had to stream it online on sites like YouTube.com that are the exact sites Sony and the MPAA are trying to shut down, Sony got played by Google lol…
