I read a lot of what I consider to be crazy domain theories and philosophies but none any better than this Washington Post article that was published thursday, usually when I read this, what I consider crazy talk, it is not in a major newspaper, it is in the comment section of domain blogs, lol.
Quotes like this seem silly to me: “Having thousands of potential top level domains available brings the unique value of any one domain name down to almost nothing: We could register BestSentences.blog, BestSentences.web, BestSentences.home, BestSentences.lol…and on and on. The coming expansion even destroys the revenue potential of “parking” domains before they’re resold, since fewer people will randomly type in .com addresses. That means the end of cybersquatting as we know it.” Hmmmm???
I have been reading theories like this since I started domaining in the ’90’s, I remember when .cc, .ws, .tv .etc were going to bring down the value and desirability of .com, yea right. Especially .cc because it is SO easy to type, and .ws means WEBSITE, get it, lol. And then there was .mobi, .travel, .info, .biz, .asia, .museum, .pro, .etc. I have never been to a .travel site, but certainly it is as good as any gTLD for travel, except a .com imo.
I wonder how long Lydia thinks it will take .travel to bring the value of .com travel domains like hotels.com, travel.com, and vacations.com down to almost nothing? My guess is never. So why panic about .trip? I wonder how much money Overstock.com would have had to spend and how much time they would have had to invest to get that o.co thing to really work out as planned?
I am sure adding all these new TLD’s will affect the domain market in some ways but I would not go betting in Vegas with Lydia.

I’m confused, most of the Domainers saying the new Gtld’s will not work, then, why big players are applying to ICANN?
Hey Irfan,
I am not saying they will not work. I am sure some will have success, and in 20 years I am sure the landscape will look different. What I said is I do not agree that these new TLD’s will bring the value of a good .com down to almost nothing.
Interesting list of domain :), thanks for article, cheers!
