Here is a little something about pre-release vs pending delete domains, this is all to the best of my knowledge. Many great expiring names are never deleted, they get picked up in pre-release auctions. Icann rules originally suggested a domain that does not get the renewal fees paid goes into a 40 day expiration mode where the domain can be renewed, then it enters a 30 day redemption mode where you can get the domain back for a redemption fee (I will not go into all these rules but I have paid a few hundred bucks to redeem a domain before, ironically I noticed it was expired when the infamous Alex spammed me with my own domain, lol), then the 5 day pending delete, no redemption, the domain is dropping, these are the domains I list, the pending deletes.
So at some point these were the ICANN rules that I remember on the cycle of a non-renewed domain, but most registrars have their own rules and they vary, if you read the TOS when you get an account you will see this. On about the 25th day after expiration NetSol, Tucows, Moniker and some others send their domains to SnapNames for pre-release auctions, if they get bids the SN winner will get the domain if the registrar does not offer redemption, some registrars still honor a redemption period at this point, which is why you might win a name at a pre-release auction but then get your money refunded or not get charged at all and not get the name, but many do not, if you win it in a SN pre-release auction it is probably soon yours.
GoDaddy sends names to their own pre-release auctions within 30 days and I believe some Demand Media registrars like Name.com and Enom.com send their (your expired domains) names to NameJet in 25 days, and they all vary on their redemption rules.
Some registrars like Dyandot do follow all the rules as outlined above but still offer pre-release auctions. Dynadot sends names to pre-release auctions, the auctions end 37 days after expiration, they then give the buyer 3 days to pay, so the name is still within the 40 days to renew, if you win the name and pay for it is renewed and locked in your account for the 30 day redemption period, in this time the original registrant can still redeem the domain, I like Dynadot.
One of my favorite benefits to getting a pre-release name vs a pending delete name is the name keeps its age, I like that. There is much more to this like registrars that keep names for themselves and send them to other entities they own but this is good for now…

Domain of the day: DNDevelopers.com – Make me an Offer!
Thanks for looking…
Some or most people I know intentionally let their domains expire and go to the auction . This is a “creative” way to know how much the domains are worth.
What I don’t understand is if you want that domain, just email to the owner and make the deal. Get it over with.
Pot123.com- make me an offer that I can refuse.
Have a good day all.

Mark,
Have you had sucess selling names in other extensions besides .com? How about .tv and .me?
Yes Adi. 9 of my last 10 sales have been .tv and .me names. Except .com, .net, and .org those are the only extensions I deal in. I have about a half dozen pending payment .tv and .me sales going right now also, hopefully they will pay…
Mark is the only guy I know that sells the most tv/me domains….he is a me/tv PRO
He likes to be ME on TV.
